From day one, students make animation — exploring hand-drawn, stop-motion, digital and hybrid techniques. But more important than the tools is the approach: originality, observation and humanity are at the center. You’ll learn by making films, exploring the world around you, developing authentic ideas, and finding a voice that is unmistakably your own.
For over fifty years, Farnham has been home to storytellers who see the world differently. Animation at Farnham is more than a degree. It’s a community of filmmakers, makers and thinkers — dedicated to pioneering new, authentic, and original ways of bringing ideas to life, frame by frame.
About Us

We make films, and our rules are simple: any genre, any subject, any medium.

" the thing about animation is, there are absolutely no rules "
For us, animation means the frame-by-frame manipulation of images over time. It’s a broad definition, because the films our students create are wonderfully diverse: heartfelt dramas, outrageous comedies, abstract experiments, sci-fi adventures; hand-drawn sketches and cutting-edge CGI.
That freedom is what makes Farnham Animation special.
Anything goes — but always with the aim of making films that matter: films that are individual, memorable, and full of feeling.
Films that that make you laugh, films that make you cry… and sometimes films that do both.

any subject any genre any medium

Our tradition of craft and innovation has produced award-winning graduates known worldwide — from Peppa Pig and Hey Duggee, to The Red Turtle and Paranorman. From BAFTA and Oscar winners to groundbreaking independent filmmakers.
Alongside our studios, the Animation Research Centre (ARC) houses the the Bob Godfrey Archive and makes Farnham a hub not only for creating films, but for thinking and writing about animation’s place in culture.
Today, in an age of AI and endless replication, we believe animation matters more than ever. Technology can copy — but it cannot feel. That’s why we teach students to be inventive, playful and ambitious filmmakers who bring their whole selves to their work, whether that’s a poetic abstract short, a comedy with foul-mouthed slugs, a dance film with burnt twigs, or an ultra-slick 3D sci-fi epic.
At Farnham, animation is more than moving images: it’s the act of creating meaning, frame by frame, through honesty, imagination and craft.
